Travel
Practices are often within 20 miles however, we occasionally go to further venues. Races are held throughout the state.
You may wish to budget for camping or hotels for some of the races.
Can I come to a practice before I pay?
Unfortunately, all participants must be registered by April 30 to guarantee that uniforms are delivered prior to races. Practices do not begin until May.
How do I order a jersey (uniform) or other team gear?
Visit our team store! Orders close May 5, so hurry. All athletes must have a team jersey. Most will buy a jersey and shorts. Coaches / Ride Leaders are not required to buy anything but can if they want. Families are also welcome to buy team gear for themselves. It's fun to represent the team on race day.
What is the time commitment for athletes?
Trail work days will be held a couple of times per season to help maintain the trails we use and to contribute to the community. Each athlete should contribute at least 3 hours to trail work.
Practices are held 2 days a week for about 2 hours each.
Practices will be held Monday and Thursday evenings starting in late May. Most practices will be held in Herriman or Draper but we will occasionally practice in further venues like Eagle Mountain or Park City.
We'll have a few other team activities that don't land on Monday or Thursday such as social events or trail work days.
Athletes are encouraged to ride on their own on days that we don't have practice. However, make sure you rest one day a week.
There will be 5 races:
High school and junior devo participate in the first 3. They are held in August and September.
High school only participates in the 4th race in October.
Qualified high school racers participate in the state championship race in October.
Are parents required to volunteer?
Yes! We hope to make this experience memorable and uplifting for all involved. We cannot manage all the races, practices, and social events without your help. Be willing to pitch in several times through the season. Here are some examples of duties we need volunteers for:
The league requires each athlete to provide a volunteer at least once a year during races. (If you have 2 kids on the team, plan to volunteer twice during the season for the league.) You can choose from opportunities like: parking attendant, crossing guard, course marshall, course sweep, course setup, course take down, and others.
The team also needs support during the races. Some needs include:
Helping with food
Checking racers in
Handing water to racers during the race
Pulling the team trailer
Setting up or taking down the team equipment in "Pit Zone"
Cleaning out the team trailer the week after races
We host social events throughout the season and need help with:
Event planning
Food preparation
Hosting
Team communications:
Social media expert to post pictures and announcements on Facebook and Instagram
Photopgraphers / Videographers to capture content at team events, practices, and races
Video editor to create an end of season video
During practice:
We need some parents to ride with the team on a regular basis to help with coaching.
We need volunteers to pass out chocolate milk at the end of practice.
What is TeamSnap?
TeamSnap is a team management app we use to keep organized and communicate with the team. It holds the team calendar, has contact information for coaches and teammates, and allows us to chat with one another in the app. You'll often hear us say "Mark TeamSnap!" which means we want you to indicate whether or not you will be at a practice or event. This is important so we can arrange our coaching staff prior to arriving.
How do I get access to TeamSnap?
The first step is to fill our our team registration form. Yes, even returning riders need to fill it out.
If you've used TeamSnap in the past, you may be automatically added with no further action required. Otherwise, look for the invitation from TeamSnap in your child's email inbox. Accept the invitation and the parents will be added to their account. Parents may receive their own invitation within a day if they have not used TeamSnap in the past.
Where do I find the team calendar?
We use a service called TeamSnap for team communications. It includes our calendar, allows athletes and coaches to RSVP, and has chat functionality. It is best used by installing the app on a smartphone but can also be accessed on a computer. You will be invited to join our team on TeamSnap after you start registration.
The calendar is also available on this site. Look for it in the menu bar at the top of the page.
What discounts are available to athletes and coaches?
The UHSCL has secured sponsors for all teams in Utah. Click here for details.
NICA has arranged benefits from sponsors on a national level. Click here to check them out.
Is the presentation available from the parent's meeting?
